How does childcare work in The Netherlands?

In the Netherlands, families have different care options for their child(ren). For example: daycare, childminder or informal care such as grandparents or other relatives. Nemo offers daycare for children between 0-4 years old.

Childcare is not a social service in the Netherlands; therefore, we are unable to guarantee places for children. Even though we would really like to! You may be eligible for childcare allowance, which is a contribution you receive from the government towards the cost of childcare.

Monitoring the development of your child

A consultation centre (CB) is an organisation that monitors your child's health, development and growth. In the region of Eindhoven it's called GGD Brabant Zuid-Oost. At the GGD you get free advice and medical care for your child here. From birth until your child is 4 years old, you will make regular visits to the clinic. This is also where he gets his vaccinations and where you can ask any questions or express any doubts you may have.

How to register your child for childcare?

  1. Visit our registration form.
  2. Please fill in the form with al requested details.
  3. Check in your e-mail if you have received a confirmation.
  4. When we have room to place your child, you will receive an offer from our planner. The reserve list depends on age, flexibility and days of care. We offer a tour prior to your choice to accept our offer, so you know what the location is like.
  5. Once the contract has been signed and the start date is known, a pedagogical professional will contact you for an intake interview and a tour at our location. Here, they will explain everything you need to know before your child starts at Nemo or Columbus.
